The Bouma family welcomes you to Casa Escalera. A renovated cottage more than 100 years old in El Saltador Bajo, within the protected National Park Cabo de Gata (region Andalusia). It has a spacious ground floor for four persons and a studio for 2 persons (upstairs). The house has a large sun- and shadow terrace with beautiful views over the village and the mountains. It is managed by Maaike Bouma. She lives in El Saltador Bajo and can give you all information about (among other things) the surroundings, hikes and tours.

Studio
The studio (upper floor) has a living room with two single beds, a kitchen with induction hob and fridge, a dining area, wood-burning cooker, television and DVD player. The bathroom has a shower, toilet and washbasin. In front of the studio is a large roof terrace. You can make use of free wifi.

Apartment
The apartment (ground floor) has a spacious living room with sleeping corner with 2 single beds, wood-burning stove, smart TV and DVD player. The open kitchen has a fridge/freezer, oven and hob. There is one bedroom with two single beds. The bathroom has a shower, bath, toilet and washbasin. In front of the casa, under the pepper trees, is a spacious terrace. Next to the casa is a cooling bath (3x3m). You can make use of free wifi.

Includes: electricity, water, gas, wifi , bed and bath linen, towels and kitchen towels en use of washing machine. Excluding: possible heating costs in low season, a package of wood costs approximately 10 euro. This can be bought near El Saltador. Exclusive: obligatory final cleaning, Studio € 35,- Apartment € 50,- Dogs are welcome, costs 15,- euro. There are no booking costs! Arrival and departure days are flexible with a minimum stay of 5 days. Discount for longer periods.
The village
El Saltador Bajo is an authentic, former mining village where you can taste the real Spanish atmosphere. You can make beautiful walks there. The village square is situated on the rambla, the unpaved riverbed. El Saltador Bajo is situated in the protected natural park Gabo de Gata. Due to the protected status of the area it is not allowed to (re)build in the area. As a result, the villages in this area have retained their authenticity and there is no mass tourism.
The village is located in Southeast Spain, The nearest airports are Almeria (60 km) and Allicante (250 km). In the summer months (July to September) the daytime temperature is high. You can cool down on the beaches and possibly in the plunge pool belonging to the apartment. The spring and autumn are lovely summers. Cabo de Gata is in winter the warmest place of Europe, therefore it is very suitable for those who enjoy the winter sun.

Surroundings, activities and tours
Carboneras
Six kilometres away you will find Carboneras. Carboneras is a fishing village without mass tourism, but with a nice boulevard and a long sandy beach. Carboneras has many facilities; such as a large supermarket, medical centre and cosy restaurants and bars where you can eat delicious tapas with a beer. In the summer there are regular music performances.
Activities
Cabo de Gata has a variety of picturesque beaches and coves. For snorkelers a (underwater) world is opening up! No experience ... In Carboneras you will find a diving school. The protected natural park is ideal for hiking. For example: Paseo de Cabrera, a 3,5 hour walk from El Saltador to Sopalmo or the 5 hour coastal walk from Las Negras to Aqua Amarga. In the last years are several marked hiking trails opened.
Tours
From Casa Escalera you can also make a personal tour. Hein, Renny and Maaike Bouma give personal tours for 4 - 8 persons. They make suggestions for sights in Andalusia and take care of this day for you. In consultation they can make a multi-day tour through Spain.
